THE4868
Sacramento treasure hunt

Terms

These Terms cover your use of THE4868, a free treasure hunt in and around Sacramento, California. By agreeing on the "Before you hunt" screen or using the site, you accept these Terms and the Official Rules.

Who can play

You must be 18 or older, or hunting with a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms for you. There is no account to create and nothing to buy.

Hunting safely

  • Stay on public paths and public property. Never enter private property, fenced areas or closed sites.
  • Don't dig, climb, move or damage anything. Treasures are never buried, in trees, on roofs or ledges, or in water.
  • Follow local laws, park rules and posted signs, and watch your surroundings and traffic.
  • If a treasure looks unsafe to reach, leave it and use "Report a problem with this treasure".

You hunt at your own risk. To the extent the law allows, the organiser is not responsible for injury, loss or damage that happens while you hunt.

Treasures and rewards

  • Each treasure carries one reward. The first person to enter its correct secret code on the site claims it. Later claims for the same treasure get nothing.
  • Rewards are gift cards or vouchers from local businesses. They have no cash value, can't be exchanged for cash, and are subject to the business's own terms and expiry date.
  • Your reward link works like the gift card itself. Keep it private. Anyone with the link can see the card.
  • You can keep the physical treasure.
  • We can pause the hunt, retire a treasure, or void and replace a reward at any time, for safety, suspected misuse or any other reason.

Fair play

Don't share secret codes, guess them automatically, use bots, interfere with treasures other people are looking for, or try to get around the site's limits. We can refuse or void a claim that breaks these Terms or the Official Rules.

Your information

We don't ask you to create an account. We record your agreement to these Terms, and a claim records when it happened plus a one-way hash of your network address and your browser type, to keep the hunt fair. If you give us an email address, we use it only for what you asked for, and every email has an unsubscribe link. Feedback answers are anonymous. The Privacy Policy has the details.

Changes

We may update these Terms. When we do, the site asks you to agree again before you keep hunting.
