THE4868
Sacramento treasure hunt

Official Rules

NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO PLAY OR TO CLAIM A REWARD.

1. Organiser

THE4868 runs this hunt. Contact: [email protected].

2. Eligibility

Open to anyone 18 or older, and to anyone younger who is hunting with a parent or guardian who agrees to these rules for them. Void where prohibited.

3. How to play

  1. Agree to the Terms and these Official Rules on the "Before you hunt" screen.
  2. Use the clues and hints on Field Notes to search public places for a hidden treasure.
  3. Scan the QR code on the treasure and enter the secret code printed on it.
  4. If yours is the first correct claim for that treasure, you get its reward.

Treasures appear on Field Notes only once they have been hidden. Hints unlock on a schedule.

4. Rewards

  • One reward per treasure. Each treasure shows its reward's dollar value on Field Notes.
  • Rewards are gift cards or vouchers for local businesses. They are not redeemable for cash, are not transferable by us, and follow the issuing business's terms and expiry date.
  • No substitution, except that we may replace a reward with one of equal or greater value.
  • Rewards are revealed on a private reward page. Anyone with that page's link can see the reward, so keep it private.

5. Winning

Rewards are won by finding a treasure and entering its secret code, not by chance. The first valid claim recorded by our server wins. Our server's record of claims is final.

6. Safety

Search only in public places you are allowed to be. Don't dig, climb, cross fences, enter private property or move or damage anything. Treasures are never hidden in those places. If one seems to be, don't go after it: report it and we'll pull it.

7. Changes, pauses and retired treasures

We may pause claiming, hide Field Notes, retire a treasure or end the hunt at any time, including for safety or suspected misuse. A retired treasure can't be claimed.

8. Disqualification

We may refuse or void a claim, and replace or withdraw a reward, if we reasonably believe it came from tampering, automated guessing, shared secret codes, trespassing or any other breach of these rules or the Terms.

9. Taxes

Any taxes on a reward are the winner's responsibility.

10. Release

To the extent the law allows, by playing you release the organiser and the businesses that provide rewards from claims arising from your participation or from using a reward.

11. Privacy

What we record and why is described in the Terms and the Privacy Policy.
